Social Media Marketing… Don’t Get Us Started!

NOISE. That’s how we’d describe most of what we hear about social media marketing. It seems like everywhere business owners turn, they are getting hit with “Why isn’t your company on Facebook?” “You gotta be on social media!” “You need to grow your followers on Twitter.” The noise can get pretty tiresome.

There is no denying that social media is here to stay… and that it CAN be a valuable tool to help magnify your promotion efforts.  However, most are still approaching social media without clear objectives or a solid game plan.  If this is the case, social media can quickly become a huge black hole that sucks away your precious time.

We think folks need to step back and evaluate social media from a return-on-investment perspective.

Don’t Approach Social Media Like Everyone Else

There is real power in social media, but here’s the trick… you can’t approach social media marketing like everyone else. If you want social media to positively impact your bottom line, you need to take a different approach – an approach we call Targeted and Measurable Social Media Marketing.

Here’s a general framework:

  1. To start, you may need to get a better handle on social media marketing basics. We’re not talking about complex training or “how-to” manuals, but the high-level business perspective to help quiet the noise and better inform your decision making. As part of our work with each client, we don’t assume you know it all. Social media can be a confusing thing. We take the time to educate.
  2. Social media marketing simply works better for some businesses than it does for others. It may or may not make sense for you. If it does, it’s probably best to focus your efforts on only 1-2 platforms. We’ll work with you to understand your business and your customers. Then we’ll offer specific recommendations for the best platforms and the best approach.
  3. Social media marketing is not the magic bullet some make it out to be. To see business results, it takes the correct approach, effort, and time. We’ll help you define the best social media marketing approach for your business; help to establish your presence, install analytics tracking, and make you aware of some free tools that will streamline the process.
  4. Now coming full circle, is it working? It’s important to take a hard look at the data to see how effective your social media marketing channels are at driving website traffic… and ultimately driving sales. HMG can help with this analysis and give you a clear picture of the ROI of your social media marketing efforts relative to your other marketing.

Timelines & Fees

The work outlined in Steps 1-3 requires 25 hours over a 2-3 week time frame. The associated fee is $3,750. Performing Step 4 successfully is heavily dependent on you accurately tracking lead source and sales data over at least a six-month period. Marketing ROI studies vary based on scope and complexity, but typically fall in the $1,800-$3,500 range.
